Can you please share a little bit about yourself and your involvement with Oxley College life?

I've been at Oxley since year 5, and am a proud member of Mawson house. I love to get involved in all things spoken word and performing arts, with the occasional sport, despite not being very good at it. I'm heavily involved with the performing arts at Oxley, a member of Senior Chorale, Wind Band, and Jazz Ensemble. Some of my favourite Oxley memories would be the big productions: Chicago, Mamma Mia, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. I love to get involved in College life at Oxley as it helps me make new friends and get the most out of the opportunities here. Go Mawson!

What is your favourite subject and why?

That's a tough one. Despite it changing like the weather, at the moment my favourite subject is Drama, taught by the wonderful Mr Cunich. Drama acts (pun intended) as a space for playfulness and creativity in a busy week. English Extension is also a favourite at the moment, as we're tasked with coming up with new interpretations and ideas on older commonly studied texts. Additionally, it would be cruel for me to not mention my love for music. I'm currently studying Music 2 and Music Extension, in which I spend most of my time merrily rolling along, singing musical theatre.

Can you tell us about a memorable project or activity you’ve done this year?

I've recently submitted my composition for Music 2, which I've been working on for over 4 months. It's a great representation of the hard work and hours behind each music student puts into their major work. My composition is a mixture of Latin Jazz and Big Band, inspired by Australian composer Sally Greenaway.

What do you feel is special about the Oxley environment and community?

For me, it's acceptance and encouraging people to be themselves. Oxley creates an environment that encourages authenticity in order for students to build character and grow. Oxley cultivates a sense of belonging by recognising individual strengths and interests, helping students feel like a part of the Oxley community.
