What inspired you to pursue teaching, and what do you find most rewarding about working in education?
After a 15-year career in media and partnerships with brands such as VOGUE and ELLE, I felt ready to move on from the superficial to making a difference by working with young people. When I was a student, my most significant memories were from experiences in Drama and English learning; they helped me become myself and I love fostering that personal growth in young people through performance, reading and writing.
Tell us a bit about your journey - what led you to teach at Oxley?
5 years ago we moved to the Southern Highlands from Sydney and Oxley was a big part of that decision. It was always my first choice of the school I hoped to work at. I loved the ethos of a school that is nurturing of the whole child; our principles aligned and I was lucky to be employed as an English Teacher initially but, within 6 months I was teaching Drama again as well.
What do you hope students remember most about their time in your classroom?
I hope they feel like they discovered something pivotal about themselves by resonating with a particular character, poem, play or novel.
When you're not at school, what are some things you love doing or exploring?
Not surprisingly, I love reading books and going to the theatre. I saw Cluedo at Theatre Royale with my son a few weeks ago and I’m still laughing about the experience, it was such a good time! The last great book I read
What's your favourite thing about the Southern Highlands?
The Bong Bong Common track was one of the first things I did coming here and I try to get on there by bike or foot every week. I’m always reminded how lucky I am being with my family in that space.
