Welcome to Pre-K
We look forward to getting to know you and your child as we begin this exciting new chapter together.
Pre-K is such a special time for children. It’s an opportunity to build confidence, develop independence, make new friends and discover the world around them. Through play, purposeful learning and plenty of opportunities to explore, we encourage children to be curious, try new things and develop a love of learning.
We also understand that starting Pre-K is a big step for families as you get to know new routines and ways of doing things. Please know that questions are always welcome. We will cover plenty of helpful information at our Parent Information Sessions early in Term 1, 2027.
We look forward to getting to know your family, celebrating your child’s achievements and sharing in all the little moments that make Pre-K such a special year.
Before You Start:
In accordance with our policies to ensure the College continues with safe and responsible practices in its approach to administering first aid to students, we ask that you please return the completed Student Medical Management Forms to the College. The form should be saved to your computer, completed and then emailed to clinic@oxley.nsw.edu.au as early as possible. A separate form is needed for each student.
Preparing To Come:
The Pre-K uniform can be purchased from the Oxley Shop, which is located on the second driveway (Senior School) in the second demountable on the right.
Items can also be purchased online via the link below, and then collected from the Shop; alternatively they will be delivered to the Pre-K classroom on the trading day of the Oxley Shop.
The Oxley Shop is open from Tuesdays - Thursdays, 8.30am - 4.00pm. These hours may vary during school holidays and the alternate hours will be displayed on the Oxley Shop webpage.
Once You're Here:
Pre-K students enjoy their meals at the outdoor tables adjacent to the classroom before playing in the designated Pre-K playground. Each child is allocated a bag hook and a personal locker for storing hats, jumpers and other belongings during the day. Further information regarding lunchbox organisation and labelling will be provided at the Beginning-of-Year Parent Information Session.
The Pre-K day starts at 8.45am.
A staff member is on duty from 8.20am each morning. Children should not arrive before this time or be left unattended.
On arrival, parents should accompany their child to the Pre-K gate, where students can place their bags on their allocated hook and their lunchboxes on the designated trolley before playing in the Pre-K playground. Students should not enter the classroom before the school day begins.
At the end of the day, children will be escorted by staff to the Senior School Pick Up Zone (second driveway) for collection. Children should be collected between 3.00pm and 3.10pm, and parents are asked to ensure their child is safely settled into their vehicle. Students not collected by 3.10pm will be taken to the Junior School Office for collection. This arrangement is intended for emergency situations only.
Attendance is recorded by the class teacher each morning, so no sign-in is required. If your child is being collected by someone other than a parent or usual caregiver, please notify the class teacher by email before pick-up time.
To collect your child earlier than the usual time, i.e. for an appointment etc, a parent/carer must sign them out from the Junior School Office, or from Student Services in the Elvo Building.
Lunch orders are available from the beginning of the school year. Please note that morning tea orders are not available.
To order your child's lunch, please go to Flexischools - Login and create an account.
All required medical information and forms (see Student Medical Management Forms above) must be submitted before your child commences Pre-K.
If your child requires medication such as an EpiPen or asthma puffer, please provide it to the class teacher clearly labelled and accompanied by a current Medical Action Plan. Families are asked to check that all medication is within its expiry date before submission.
Families of students with nut allergies are encouraged to provide suitable birthday celebration treats that can be stored at school, such as individually packaged cupcakes suitable for freezing.
To support the wellbeing of all students, children who are unwell should remain at home. If a child becomes ill during the day, parents will be contacted to arrange collection.
A detailed daily timetable will be provided at the Beginning-of-Year Parent Information Session.
Students should bring a spare set of clothes each day, including underwear and socks. Where possible, a spare pair of shorts or long pants is also recommended. These items should be packed in a clearly labelled plastic bag and stored in the front pocket of your child’s school bag.
Pre-K students participate in a daily Fruit Break at 11.50am, providing a healthy break between learning sessions. Students should bring fruit or vegetables in a separate container to help them identify their Fruit Break snack. Water is the only drink required for this time.
Students should bring:
- A hat
- Lunch and Fruit Break snacks
- A water bottle
- A jumper and/or long pants as required
- A spare change of clothes
All items should be clearly labelled with your child's name.
Some families also choose to leave a pair of gumboots at school during the wetter months. Please note that toys should not be brought to school unless specifically requested by the teacher.
Students require a clearly labelled Oxley library bag on library borrowing days. Library bags are available for purchase through the Uniform Shop.
Information regarding uniform fittings and booking arrangements will be provided prior to the commencement of the school year.
Each Pre-K cohort has two Parent Representatives who help foster connections between families. The representatives typically establish a class WhatsApp group to facilitate communication and build community within the year group. A link will be sent to you early in the term to join the WhatsApp Group. There is no requirement to join the groups if you do not wish to do so.
A Parent Information Session will be held in the Pre-K classroom at the beginning of the school year, alongside the Kindergarten to Year 6 information sessions. This session provides an opportunity to meet staff, learn about classroom routines and ask any questions about the year ahead.
