School Managed Devices in the Junior School
In the Junior School, all student devices are managed by the College. From Year 5, students transition to their own device. Beginning with the Year 5 cohort in 2027, this will be a MacBook Neo A18 Pro.
As these devices are school-managed, only approved software and applications will be installed, and age-appropriate internet filtering will be applied.
Students will use their Oxley email address as their Apple ID, and app downloads will be limited to School-approved applications. Personal Apple IDs cannot be used on these devices.
What is the MacBook Neo?
The MacBook Neo is smaller than a MacBook Air and has a lower price point. Its compact size, lightweight design, durable build and portability make it easy for students to carry between classrooms and use comfortably on smaller desks or learning spaces. Despite its slim design, the MacBook Neo delivers strong performance for everyday school activities, including research, writing, presentations, creative projects, and online learning.
The MacBook Neo offers students:
- A full desktop-class computing experience
- Seamless access to College learning platforms and software
- A stable and consistent learning environment across year levels
- College-managed security, software deployment and technical support. Age-appropriate internet filtering will apply at all times, both at school and at home.
The MacBook Neo will support students as they engage with a range of learning tools and platforms, including Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, web-based learning applications, coding activities and other digital learning experiences. The device provides students with the power and flexibility needed for both current and future learning requirements.
A MacBook Neo leased or purchased for Year 5, 2027 is eligible to travel through Junior School into the Senior School years.

Repairs and Support
- All devices will have AppleCare+ insurance. Accidental damage repair costs are the responsibility of the user. If accidental damage has been incurred, Oxley will invoice the parents for the physical repair cost under AppleCare+ pricing:
Accidental damage repair for a broken screen is $79.
Accidental damage repair for other damage is $249.
- For School-Owned devices the student will drop the faulty device off at the Oxley Helpdesk. They will be given a loan device while theirs is being repaired. Oxley Helpdesk will then send the broken device to EduCom IT who will manage all Apple repairs end-to-end.
- Students must have a MacBook Neo A18 Pro 8GB RAM, 512GB with Touch ID and a hardshell protective case. There is no levy for this option, as parents are purchasing the device.
- Devices can be purchased from any recommended retailer of Apple devices. Oxley recommends purchasing an Apple device from our Apple authorised reseller EduCom IT. Please visit https://www.educomit.com.au/oxley for the specified devices and select the Year 5 tab to access the Oxley MacBook Neo School-Managed bundle, which will include the MacBook Neo, charger, and a hardshell case. Educom has advised that their website will be updated very soon to allow parents to start purchasing.
- Devices purchased from EduCom IT will be directly entered into the Oxley School Managed Device (SMD) system.
- If you are not purchasing via EduCom, families must also purchase a hard shell case for their device.
- Specific software (apps) will be installed on the device and will ensure year/age specific internet filters are active.
- Students will use their Oxley email address as their Apple ID and app downloads will be restricted to school-approved apps only. No personal Apple IDs can be used.
- If you have not opted to purchase via EduCom IT, please present the device to the Oxley ICT department by January 15, 2027 to allow time for the specific software to be uploaded before the start of the school year.
Repairs and Support
- Oxley highly recommends that families purchase MacBook Neo AppleCare+ ($259 for 3 years coverage) for Parent Supplied Devices, as this will significantly reduce repair costs. For example, a non-warranty repair for a broken MacBook Neo screen will cost around $600.
- MacBook Neo AppleCare+ service pricing:
Accidental damage repair for a broken screen is $79.
Accidental damage repair for other damage is $249. - Parents can opt to have the device repaired by EduCom IT, or another licensed Apple repairer. If opting for EduCom IT repair service, students can drop their devices off at the Oxley IT Helpdesk and be issued with a replacement device for the duration of the repair. EduCom IT will review the device and work directly with you, the parents to repair or replace, depending on warranty, AppleCare+ status, and the age of the device. Once repaired, the device will be returned to the school, and the student will swap the devices back.
Please note that all devices (both School-Owned and Parent-Supplied) will remain at school throughout Year 5, where they will be securely stored and charged. Students will undertake a Digital Citizenship Licence over the course of the year, to develop responsible, ethical and effective use of their device.
