Pre-K Weekly Update – Term 2, Week 1
A very warm welcome back to all our Pre-K families for Term 2! I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and fun-filled holiday break. It has been wonderful to see the children return with such enthusiasm, ready to learn, play, and reconnect with their friends.
Literacy Highlights
Our Shared Reading text for this week has been Ella Kazoo Will Not Brush Her Hair. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring this fun and engaging story, full of imagination and humour. Through our reading, we focused on developing early comprehension skills by discussing characters, predicting what might happen next, and sharing our own ideas about the story.
To complement our literacy learning, the children participated in creative activities that also supported their fine motor development. They designed their own “crazy hairstyles” on face templates and practised threading string to create hair for their characters. These activities not only encouraged creativity but also helped strengthen hand control and coordination, which are essential for early writing skills.
Maths Connections
We also made meaningful links to our Maths learning by exploring the concept of length. Using our story as inspiration, the children compared different hair lengths—long, short, longer, and shorter—through hands-on activities. This allowed them to begin using mathematical language in a fun and familiar context.
It has been a fantastic start to the term, and we are looking forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!
