Earlier this term, the Chair of the Board of Governors provided an update on the work being undertaken following the feedback from the Focus Groups in Term 3. In that update, Mrs Crowley indicated that I would communicate with parents about an improved feedback process for parents/carers.
Our goal is to make the feedback process and the purpose of the Feedback Form clearer, whilst also improving the form’s accessibility and making it more efficient to provide feedback.
With this in mind, we have made the following changes:
Created a new ‘Parent & Community Feedback’ page on the College website. This can be accessed via the Contact Us page and Quick Links at the top of the landing page.
Provided an overview on this page of how to escalate a concern that has been made, but which has not been satisfactorily addressed.
Simplified the means to make a formal complaint: use of the form or via an email address.
Explaining what happens following the submission of formal complaints to the College.
The process is now as follows:
Informal Concerns/Issues
Most issues causing concern in schools can be handled quickly and in an informal manner. We therefore ask that, where appropriate, you first raise your concern directly with the relevant staff member. If the matter is not satisfactorily resolved, please contact the relevant Head of School.
How Do I Make a Complaint?
If you have been unable to resolve a matter informally, following the above, or wish to make a formal complaint, you can do so by:
Completing our Online Feedback Form via the website: Oxley College Parent and Community Feedback/Complaints Form.
Please note:
When you hit submit, you will receive an email acknowledging your submission
The form will be directed to the Head of College
This form can be submitted anonymously if desired.
Alternatively, you can send an email to feedback@oxley.nsw.edu.au, which will be directed to the Head of College.
From 2026 Oxley College is transitioning to a School Managed Device (SMD) model with Apple-based devices. For years 6-12, the SMD model will comprise of a choice of either a school-owned and school-managed device, or a parent-supplied, school-managed device.
It is important to note that from 2028 onwards, all students (except for the current Year 9 2025 cohort, who will be in Year 12 in 2028) will have school-owned, or parent-supplied School Managed Devices.
Full details, including the options available to families for 2026 can be found in this document:
It is important that the form included in the document above be completed by Friday 28 November 2025. After this date, Option 1a (School-Owned, School Managed Device) will not be available for 2026.
For more information, please see the following page on the Oxley website: School Managed Devices
If you have any questions, please contact the College.
You are warmly invited to join us for Speech Night 2025. Speech Night is a compulsory event for students in Years 3-12. Please see the invitation below for full details.
This week at Senior School Assembly I spoke to the students about the most recent announcements by companies regarding decisions around as well as general preparedness for the coming weeks, for those both under and over 16.
Latest Announcements
Snapchat Inc
Snapchat announced on Monday 24 November, they will begin notifying users who they believe are under 16 either in app, by email or SMS. They will disable accounts from Wednesday 10 December.
Snapchat will use behavioural signals based on account activity to estimate ages, in addition to those who have self-declared to be under 16, to identify accounts.
If Snapchat flags a user as under 16, but they are not, they will need to go through age-assurance methods to remain on the platform. Users will be presented with a prompt stating “verify your age” in the app to begin the process.
Age can be verified by ConnectID via an Australian bank account, by checking a government ID such as passport or driver licence, or through facial age estimation. The latter will require users to take a selfie that is analysed using technology provided by age-assurance company k-ID.
Meta
Meta (Instagram, Facebook, Threads) announced last Thursday 20 November, that they will begin removing access to accounts they believe are owned by those aged under 16. Users will have 14 days (from that date) until access is cut on Thursday 4 December. This way all underage users will be removed by Wednesday 10 December.
From Thursday 4 December, they will block any new under 16 accounts.
As Messenger is not in the scope of the new law, eligible teens will have the option to continue using Messenger without access to Facebook.
Teens will have the choice of downloading all of their photos and messages and putting their accounts on hold for when they do turn 16. They also have the option to delete their account.
To appeal a decision if over 16, Meta will use Yoti’s facial assurance check, which requires users to take a video self to assess their age, or by providing a government ID.
Tiktok
They are yet to come out with any statement regarding their actions or how they will be assessing age or their appeals process.

Student safety remains our paramount concern. If you are worried about someone, or something is happening to you online, speak up! Even if you find yourself in a space where you shouldn’t be.
The responsibility for accounts is on the Platforms who are reported and fined, not on your or your parents.

A reminder to current Y10 students to come and try on their Senior Uniforms for 2026 or order online.Summer Holidays Trading Hours: Monday 19 January - Friday 23 January: 8.30am - 4.00pm Tuesday 27 January - Friday 30 January 8.30am - 4.00pm
At Oxley we exist for the development of character, care for the whole child and enlightened academic rigour so that our students can make a positive contribution wherever they go.
This is why we mandate all our students’ attending camps, playing at least a season of sport and taking part in service learning alongside their academic studies. At this time of year, I like to issue a reminder to keep HSC Rankings in perspective when they are published over the break
HSC Perspectives
One of the most interesting pieces of feedback we received from the MMG survey last year was related to parents’ expectations of HSC results, where 49% of parents said their expectations were not met, compared with only 7% who said their expectations were exceeded.

This data included parents from Kindergarten to Year 12. There is much to unpack here. I would, however, urge any of these parents who voted contributing to the red bar, to have an open mind. Unfortunately, the SMH rankings released each year only paint a small part of the picture and do not take into account the challenge level of the subject, only the proportion of students who achieves a Band 6.
If you are interested, take a look at this research that questions not only the ranking system, but also the structure of the HSC itself.
Our graduate attributes: students who are - independent critical thinkers, creative and curious problem solvers, confident, socially aware communicators, purposeful collaborators and challenge ready, combined with them achieving an ATAR to allow them to get into their preferred course is our goal. We want each student to achieve their best and I am excited to see how our cohort goes this year.
Of course, the groundwork for this success in Year 12 starts much earlier. The habits and attitudes formed in Junior School then the development over Years 7-10, as students narrow down their subject choices all play a part in their success. Study Skills in Year 7-10 was a new initiative this year and the impacts of that will not be seen for a few years.
Come Thursday 18 December, our 2025 Year 12 will get their results. Whilst there will undoubtedly be excitement, pride and for some disappointment within individuals among the cohort, I am very proud of the young people they have become over the time at Oxley. When they look back at their time, their favourite or proudest moments may not be their ATAR or mark in a particular subject, but the time they spent with their cohort on Outback or in Nepal, their performance in Mamma Mia, Chicago or another dramatic or musical performance. A speech delivered or a debate won, a resilient sporting team overcoming adversity or the confidence they gained knowing their teachers had their back.
Ultimately, it is the journey and the growth our students experience at Oxley that truly defines their success, leaving them well-prepared to make a meaningful impact wherever life takes them.
Kind regards
Tristan Bevan
Head of Senior School

Academic Assessment Testing
At Oxley College, our goal is to help every student grow. To support this, we use Academic Assessment Testing alongside NAPLAN and our own assessments. The GD Champs is a mountain bike event that commemorates the life of George Dummer, an Oxley student and keen mountain biker who tragically passed away in 2020, aged 14.
The race format is Enduro. There are 3 trails, 1-2km in length and mostly downhill, but not overly technical, that you can ride as many times as you like in a two hour period, with your best time on each trail counting towards your result.
There are categories for all ages: U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, U19, elite and masters riders, with school-aged riders’ points contributing towards the George Dummer Cup, which Oxley College has won in all 4 previous editions. The event is run by Oxley MTB Coordinator Meaghan Stanton, through our local club Highlands Trails.
Whether you are an experienced rider or thinking about entering your first ever mountain bike event, this event is for you. George was one to give everything a go, so it would be great to have as many Oxley students riding as possible, embracing that philosophy! There will also be novelty events such as a bunny hop and wheelie competition.
For more information and to enter, go to gdchamps.com. Any questions, email meaghan.stanton@oxley.nsw.edu.au.

Literacy Highlights
This week our shared storybook was Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae. The children thoroughly enjoyed Gerald’s journey and the important message about believing in yourself and celebrating our unique talents. Our focus vocabulary included munching, clumsy, and miracle, and we explored what these words mean through discussion and play.
During PreLit, we played a fun game of “I Spy” where we practised breaking words into syllables (word parts). You might like to try this at home by clapping and counting the syllables in your child’s name or in family members’ names!
We also introduced the letter m, learning its name and sound. The children enjoyed identifying pictures and objects that begin with the /m/ sound. A simple game of “I Spy” at home, looking for items that start with m, is a wonderful way to reinforce this learning in a playful way.
Numeracy Focus
In Numeracy, we have been working on matching, reading, writing and ordering numbers from 1–10. The children are building confidence in recognising numbers and understanding their sequence. Practising number recognition in everyday contexts — such as spotting numbers on houses, in books, or while counting toys — is a great way to support this learning at home.
Buddies
This week we continued our special Buddy sessions with our Year 3 friends. Spending time each week with older buddies is a valuable part of our Pre-K program. These sessions help our children build confidence, develop social skills, and feel connected within the wider school community.
Our Year 3 buddies act as positive role models, supporting our Pre-K students with activities. These relationships foster a sense of belonging, encourage communication skills, and help our youngest learners feel safe and supported at school. We look forward to continuing to strengthen these wonderful cross-age friendships throughout the year.
Parent Information Session
There will be a Pre-K Information Session held on Tuesday 10 March at 4.00pm-4.30pm in the Pre-K classroom. This session will be an opportunity to gain valuable information about the year ahead.
